The sun is shining and it is absolutely beautiful outside today. It is supposed to be warmer this weekend so there may be some nice snow to build snow people, forts etc. with.. We have been working of procedural writing. Please talk to your children about what step he/she needs to do next if participating in outdoor building activities.
Next week we are going to be blowing bubbles with bubble gum and eating Oreo cookies as part of our writing unit. The students will be asked to write each step that they took in order to complete the task. At home please show your child samples of procedural writing such as in recipe books, instructions for small appliances etc. In math we have been measuring using non-standard units such as toothpicks and cubes. We have been using math vocabulary longer, shorter, longest, tallest etc. to describe our math thinking. At home, please encourage your child to estimate and compare lengths of items found in the home. Have a wonderful weekend! The students worked very hard on writing New Year's Resolutions with a learning focus.
Many students said that they would read and write more. Please encourage this at home on a regular basis. Ask your child to sing you our New Year's Song. I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday. Please ensure that your child brings his/her shoes back for the start of the new year.
Please remember to dress appropriately for the weather. Snow pants, hats and mittens are necessary for these cold January days. Please remember to label your child's belongings and check our lost and found regularly for missing items. Just a reminder that Time Lines are due this week. The children are very excited to present these presentations. It is wonderful to see the work that they have done!
If your child can not present on the assigned day that they were given please contact me to discuss another date. Time Line ProjectsSee time line projects in agendas today.
It appears that we are having technical difficulties with this blog. Here are a few of the key points that were posted but didn't seem to come up on the page.
Please do not send any home baked goods into our class to share with children other than your own as we have a life threatening peanut allergy in our room. Please limit the number of Hallowe'en treats that are brought to school. I encouraged the students to eat healthy snacks first. |
